Red Cleavers and Green Thumbs

This morning in Palo Alto, there was an "incident" at a Chinese restaurant with someone being attacked with a cleaver. All of us at work speculated that the suspect could easily be our IT guy, but he didnt match the weight description on the news. But instead of posting a bloody image of a cleaver, I think a little plant is much more appealing. I've somehow managed to keep this little plant alive for the past 6 months. Since it was a present, I felt the pressure to make sure I didn't kill it. For a little while I was worried that the little wrinkly yellow thing was shrinking and dying, until Diana told me it was in fact a rock. This is just proof that I really didn't learn anything in school.

I'm Seeing Stars
90 stars folded, and about 895 more to go. . .Why? Cause I'm stupid and decided to get a gargantuan jar for Kaityln for her kindergarten "graduation." I've barely made a dent in filling up the jar, and I'm thinking of downgrading to filling up a shot glass instead. Is it inappropriate to give a 5 year old a shot glass for a graduation?

Carnaval!

Our own little Mieko was in the Carnaval parade with her dance troupe and unlike 75% of performers, didn't have to wear a sequin bra and a thong. She managed to stay warm in the 50 degree weather while her dad danced on the sidelines with a yellow pom pom on his head. Plus, I spent the afternoon with a traveling nurse visiting from Georgia. Good suprise of the day.Saturday, May 23, 2009

Spoon Licker

You can't tell from the photo, but 20 seconds before the photo with the spoon was taken, it was drenched in brownie batter. Of course, now it's the cleanest spoon in the world when a 5 year old gets their hands on it. No one set a fire in my house, and we managed to make marshmallows (again) and brownies.Wednesday, May 20, 2009
Chocolate Malt Un-sandwiches
It's 11:30pm, my filling is chiilling in the fridge, and I'm probably not going to finish before 12, so I'm posting my un-sandwiched cookies. Unless you'[re lucky enough to get one, you're going to have imagine chewy chocolate cookies with a soft, melty malt filling.I still have to prep for my lemon bars and marshmallow for tomorrow, so I'm outtie.

Better Battery?

I had to go to 3 different places before we could decide where to go for breakfast this morning. Delancy Street was closed, Mama's had a line a block long, and without fail, chinamen are ALWAYS open, so we ended up with dim sum. I caught one of many misspelled signs in Chinatown, and this might be the beginning of a new photo mission- take pics of all the grammatically challenged menus and signs in Chinatown. Do you think they are trying to sell a better battery for $3?On a side note, look at my little cubes of billowy, fluffy goodness! I didn't have time this morning to cut them into little bunnies and bears. I'll save that for next time.

Challah!!!
I was determined not to leave the house today since there was the potential 10,000 drunk people would be less than a block away walking in the park. Plus, there were 2 game 7's on, and it was a great excuse to watch basketball and make bread. And now, a moment of silence for my beloved scootie. She's now in someone else's caring hands thanks to craigslist.

Jesus Plays the Guitar

To quote the famous movie, House Party, "It was so god*@#! hot, I thought I saw the devil sittin' up in here." And indeed, it was freaking hot today. Despite the heat, it was my first visit to a recording studio for some fun photos. All I know is thay it was somewhere out in the ghetto, comprised of some sketchy metal shacks, and had a prosthetic leg hanging in one of them. Turned out to be a fun afternoon with Sister Grizzly. Doesn't Tom look like Jesus?Friday, May 15, 2009
Academy of Art
The Academy of Art kids were out early today on the sidewalk placing what could be little scaled model trees, or broccoli. I can't tell. I think they should leave it out when they're done so a small-scale homeless person can have lunch. This also reminds me of the days at Davis when people would stare at landscape students because we'd be sitting there for an hour drawing a tree or leaf, or discussing the form and habit of a freakin shrub. How embarassing.

Get 'Yo Nails Did
If you ever need to get your nails done while also getting your keys made and shoes repaired, I know just the place. I drive by this place everday, and finally got a pic. I don't know if I really want to go somewhere where they might accidentally put shoe shine on my face, or where I can hear someone cutting metal while I'm soaking my feet at a "spa."On a side note, I won some free music on the radio again! I texted when I heard they were giving something away and I won! I'm not quite sure what, but it's free! I heart free radio stuff.

Shag-a-licious
It's looking like actually seeing daylight this week is going to be slim, so I'll have to include more embarassing childhood photos as placeholders. Right after we got home from my first trip to Hong Kong, I was captured on the shaggy carpet with my HK sweatsuit, and my first Ding Dong. I remember that my mom had to convince the airline to let us carry on 2 oversized stuffed animals as evidenced by the large flying dog.

What'd You Say Bout My Mama?
Nothing says lovin' like a free waffle breakfast! Times are rough and that's all my Mama is getting for Mother's Day. Not even a singing hallmark card that plays "I'm Every Woman" for freaking 5 bucks. For 5 bucks, I'll sing that to her all day long. Anyhoo, attached is an oldie, but a goodie. Me and moms hanging in Portsmouth Sqaure back in the day. I'm hoping that's the first and last day that I have to wear a polyester uniform.

Hall Pass
Remember those days when you could talk your teacher into giving you a hall pass cause you supposedly need to pee in the middle of class? I would instead go to the vending machine for candy or stop by other people's classes and make goofy faces in the door window. Today, I cheated fate and my day went from being a 13 hour day to a 6 hour work day! At least I got to take a detour towards the bridge and make dinner.

My Humps, My Humps, My Humps

Humpback whales, that is. As an earyl Mother's Day present, we packed our lunch and took a mini trip down to Monterey for a little whale and seal watching. More importantly, check out the pic of my mom. I actually had to re-take the photo cause my mom thought it would be funnier if she pulled up her pants so her legs would blend with the "bikini." Hilarious. . .I'll spare you the gory details of being seasick on the boat. At least I was able to take photos with one hand clenched to the rail, my legs gone to pure jelly, and face white as a ghost. The things I do for photos. . .
